Hi, everyone. l really wanna try out for a club team. I am in sixth grade. I am like 5'4'' or 5'5'' (yeah, l know I am really tall for my age.) But, I am on the B team, but everyone says l should be on the A(better) team.

SERVING: I am probably the most consistent over-hand server on my team. I've been over-hand serving since fourth grade. l can probably get 9/10 serves over, and 7 or 8/10 serves in. Sometimes l kind of hit it the ball to hard and it goes passed the back line! lol! Any tips?

SETTING: I am the setter on my team, but, like l said, I am on the B team. l can get to the ball pretty quick, and help get the ball up on the 2nd hit. l also tip a lot, too. Like l told you, I am pretty tall. Any tips?

HITTING: Like l said, I am a setter, so l do not do much hitting. l have an okay approach, but l have a lot of power to put into the ball. Any tips?

BUMPING/DIGGING: I am pretty good at bumping, I've improved a lot this year with it. I am not the best at bumping, though. Any tips?

l can go to a camp on Sundays at a local volleyball court, if that might help. l have two brothers to practice with, and have a big backyard to practice in. Also, what should l expect at tryouts? Any tips on improvement?

Wel tecnecly what you do is hit the ball and try to make it over the net andd into the opponens grid!!

Different clubs do different sort of tryouts, but the club that l am on for the past couple of years normally ask what position u would like to try out for, as in ur case l can see you're going for setting. Keep in mind that sometimes the position u would like to play may not always be what u would be, or sometimes u will switch up different positions too, especially in ur age level. Basically for a tryout, they start by getting u to warm up then going into some drills that consist of basic bumping, setting, & possibly digging. Hitting comes in as well, & they might play a little rally to see how u react during a game-like situation. Since you're still in grade six right now, u still have a lot of time to improve & increase ur skill level, so even if u do not get picked on the team, never get down. Keep practicing & have fun with the sport. Practice ur techniques couple days/weeks before the tryout, good luck.

If you are one of the taller kids for your age you might want to practice your approach more. l would recommend you start doing plyometrics. Whether you are a setter or hitter, you need to be able to jump high. Most likely if you can put up a bigger block than everyone else you will move on to the A team. i would practice ur approach..and try to keep ur sever in...ALWAYS try really really hard even when the coach is not looking.lol!

Are u talking summer league? Cause normal club has tryouts in October/November & goes until about May...
l would work on something called the ''W'' drill. Basically, You start on the ground in the left back of the court. The person hitting smacks the ball then u stand up & they hit it, then they tip it near them so u run forward for short.. then u sprint back to postion 6 for deep. Then go up to postion 3 for tip. then back to postion 5 for deep. Then finally the person sets it to u & u hit outside. The goal is to get as many balls to the target as possible & there suppised to do this all really fasst.

Well, it all depends on the coaches and what they expect to see from the players. When l tried out for my club volleyball, it was fairly easy because l knew all the stuff. After l made the team, l improved a lot because of the coach. But basically it is all the coaches decisions. From what you said about yourself, you have a good chance of making the team. Good luck!

Dive & really show that u want it. Sacrifice ur body for the point. One amazing save out of five or ten great efforts goes a long way. l am a setter too & l am on my 8th grade A team but back in 6th l was in ur position. The best on the B team & deserving of the A team. Then in 7th l was moved up. Now im hoimg to play club next year. You just have to show that u can make up for ur weaknesses with heart. When the coaches ask for someone to shag the balls make an extra effort. Coaches watch stuff like that almost as much as how good u r at volleyball.
