l am doing a school project about global marketing.l had to come up with a new sports product and explain how it would work and how we would market it, etc.

Product Idea:A volleyball with some sort of sensing system to tell if it was in or out.It would reduce bad calls, etc.There could be a sensor in the ball or on the floor (on the line), either way, we just need a way for this to work.

What sort of sensor system would work for this idea?

l am not sure a sensor would be able to distinguish between the volleyball & the feet of the players. l have seen tennis on TV with a slow mo video shot of the play in dispute.
Your sensors would probably have to be high speed video cameras. Hockey, football & tennis & baseball to a limited amount use video replay. Tennis uses the Cyclops for the serve line because no player gets near it, they can get away with an optical sensor. The volleyball endline could not use optical sensors because the players would also set off the sensor.

Maybe not for in and out sensors, but possibly for a substitution or a libero replacement. It can work like a door sensor when you enter a shop and record the number of substitutions. you can line one end up on the poll and another on the wall behind the endline.

NO idea if this fits with what you are doin. but l hope this helps.

a sensor in the ball & on the lines. when both the volleyball & the line sense theyre getting hit at the same time, the line will light up. therefore, if the ball misses the line, the line wo not light up
