I am deciding to go for the team (JV) next year. l really wanna stay active, and volleyball seems like a really fun sport to play.
But there is one thing: l get scared of the ball when it comes speeding down on me.
Any advice? Were YOU ever scared, but then with practice and perserverance you got better? Any personal experiences that will help me?

Well,,volleyball is a great sport im am currently in JV boys volleyball..im a rookie,, what my team tell me is too always keep ur elbows locked meaning dont bend ur arm when ur goin to pass the ball.''you r gonna hear it alot'' Basicly right now what u can do is go get a volleyball & set to urself practice will help. ;) There is nothing to be scared of.the ball isnt gonna kill u.lol.Basicly after ur practice with ur teamates & stuff ur arms will bebcome stiffer(better). l also started doing push ups which increases my upper body strengths(it worked).HOPE THAT HELPS

Well, at my school Im on the Varsity, only 8th grade, but my coach has a scary overhand. He has told us that when the ball is speeding down at u to just slow it down in ur head. Focus on nothing but the ball & getting it to ur target. We do run-throughs where our coach throws the ball at us & instead of stopping & passing the ball to the target, we go towards the ball & run through right to our target. It is really helpful. At first, l was scared of his hits, but all of the team has gotten used to them. He also makes us use basketballs to practice setting & power setting, then we can switch to a volleyball & it is much easier. l hope this information helps a lot! Good luck!

oh man l had the same fear the frist time l got a fast ball is when l was in 8th grade and this gril that was a senior and therir coach said that l could play and also l was the frist time and she wailed it to me and get what l was amazed.so the next time it came to l when to the ball and was in the postion and l hit the ball and will that l face my fear and plus jv does not spike that hard bc l was on the freshmen team and we kick their but and l block almost all of their spkies

haha ohhh, good times they were when the volleyball was frightening.not. u get used to the thought of a ball speeding towards u & eventually realize that u can counter it by passing it simply by stickin ur arms out. stick with it, u will get used to it very quickly. just think, whats the worst that could happen? u get hit in the face, it hurts for a minute or two, & now u know, & have the instinct, to put up ur hands if it is coming towards ur face. it can only get better from there on.

That is the biggest thing DO NOT be scared of the ball. If you do get hit its no big deal because its actually pretty light.

well what l did was l pretended that it was my brother lol becuz my brother is always mean to me so l took it out on him so it wasnt a probelm for me anymore now im one of the best on my team so give it a try if you dont have sibs. then try someone you hate like in your school or something
